Two members of the Northern New Jersey Region of the Sports Car Club of America are among those who died Tuesday on one of the planes hijacked by terrorists.

The following statement was issued by a National Administrator of the SCCA:

"It is with extreme regret that I have been called by United Airlines who informed and confirmed to me that Linda Gronlund F&C Chief - NNJR and Joe DeLuca Race Control - NNJR, two of our SCCA family have perished on United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed near Pittsburgh as part of the terrible terrorist attacks upon the United States of America.

"All the members of the SCCA family extend their condolences to the families and their friends. At the Runoffs we will have a card of condolences that we can share our feelings with the families."

-Dick Coburn, National Administrator

Members of the Motorsport.com staff knew Linda and Joe. We know they faced danger at the race track in their roles as flaggers and communicators. They did this willingly so that three drivers could have the safest conditions possible for their events. They faced a different type of danger on board United Flight 93 Tuesday. They and their fellow passengers successfully prevented that plane from completing its terrorist mission. Linda and Joe were heros to many at the race track. They became heros to the rest of us Tuesday.

Rest in Peace - Linda and Joe
