Round Two of The Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo NationalSeries set for California
TOPEKA, Kan. (March 11, 2004) -- First it was the East Coast's chance to shine. Now, the West Coast stands front and center as the second round of The Tire Rack® SCCA ProSolo NationalSeries is ready to go this weekend at the Norton Airport in San Bernardino, Calif.
With the shift west, many competitors who live west of the Rocky Mountains will make their first NationalSeries appearance of 2004. The 210-strong entry list includes several national champions from a year ago and in one class, the entire podium from 2003 will be in action.
The three top finishers in B Street Prepared at Topeka a year ago will be in action for the first time in '04. Champion Tom Berry, of Alta Loma, Calif., in his Kumho/Ankeny Racing Enterprise 1996 Chevrolet Corvette, will try to repeat the magic he displayed in Kansas last year when he captured the crown by 0.760-sec. over second-place finisher Harold Olsen, of Folsom, Calif., and by more than a second over bronze winner Bill Buetow, of Puyallup, Wash.
In the Street class ranks, which introduced the Street Touring Ultra (STU) and Street Touring Sport 2 (STS 2) classes last week, reigning 2003 Street Touring Xtreme Champion Keith Casey, of Somerset, Mass., finished third at Atlanta over Valentine's Day weekend in a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX and is looking to improve that mark. However, this weekend he will compete in a 2000 Subaru Impreza.
Scotty B. White, of Puyallup, Wash., in his Kumho/Redline Oil/Corsa 2002 Chevrolet Z06 enters the Street Modified 2 waters for his inaugural 2004 run in hopes of continuing the success that 2003 provided as he won the class title.
Anna Goeke, of Kirkland, Wash., captured a championship last year as a G Stock entry in Ladies competition and is entered as a B Stock competitor in the Ladies 1 class in her Team Butt Heat!/Tires Plus 2000 Honda S2000.
Weather conditions are forecast to be almost perfect for competitors who might be a little sun-starved after heavy rains and wind pelted teams and enthusiasts in Atlanta. Temperatures are expected to range from the middle 70s to 80 degrees under sunny skies and breezy off-shore winds.
The event begins with warm-up sessions and registration Friday afternoon. Competition is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and will wrap up with the completion of the Hawk Performance Super Challenge Sunday afternoon, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
