Quest for New SCCA Solo Triad Award Begins with Southeast and Rocky Mountain Events
TOPEKA, Kan. (April 23, 2009) - Earlier this year, it was announced that the SCCA Tire Rack Solo National Tour would add an award to the program similar to the Chicago Region Triple Crown or the SCCA Club Racing Super Sweep. The new honor, dubbed the SCCA Solo Triad Award, will incorporate all three levels of the Tire Rack National Solo program.
To win the SCCA Solo Triad, a driver must accomplish three feats in a single class: win either the Eastern or Western States Championship National Tour event, win a Tire Rack Divisional Championship and win at the Tire Rack Solo National Championships. Any driver who can successfully complete all three requirements in the same class will be rewarded with an SCCA Solo Triad trophy, free entry to the following year's Tire Rack Solo National Championships, a commemorative Triad Award Winner fleece, entry into a drawing for a lifetime SCCA membership and have their name engraved on the perpetual SCCA Solo Triad Award trophy.
Classes must meet a minimum entry size for drivers to qualify; three for Division Championships and the Eastern and Western States Championship, and five for the Tire Rack Solo National Championships. Undersubscribed classes will be merged into an Index class for Triad scoring purposes with credit given to the original class. In such an instance, drivers should check with the event steward for more details.
The very first SCCA Solo Triad quest begins this weekend, with Southeast Division commencing its three-event championship series. Old Dominion Region will host the event, which will take place at ACU-4 Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Va. More information can be found at www.sedivsolo2.com. Also close at hand is the Rocky Mountain Divisional Championships, scheduled for May 16 -- 17, to be held in conjunction with the Tire Rack National Tour event at McGee Park in Farmington, N.M. Learn more at www.rmsolo.org.
The Eastern States Championship National Tour will take place May 30 -- 31, at the Arkansas Aeroplex in Blytheville, Ark. The site is considered the best Solo venue east of the Mississippi, with more than a million and a half square feet of smooth concrete, plus true southern hospitality, with the community hosting a welcome party. More information about Blytheville is available at www.blythevillegosnell.com.
The Western States Championship is scheduled for August 1 -- 2, at Eagle County Airport in Vail Valley, Colo. The runway at Eagle County Airport will be temporarily closed in August for construction, making the super smooth concrete and terminal area available for a once-in-a-lifetime vent. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, the event will be a memorable one, especially with support from the Eagle County community, which can be found online at www.eaglecounty.us.
The 2009 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships will take place Sept. 8 -- 11 at Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Neb. Registration is now open.
