The 2001 SCCA Performance Rally season ended with success for Team Paradox and the RallyRhybuddRacing program. In the Central Division points contest, the Team placed well enough in the ClubRally series to ensure a comfortable margin of victory in the Division's Group 2 Driver's and Co-Driver's championship. This performance has earned the Team an invitation to the upcoming ClubRally National Championship, to be held at the 100 Acre Wood rally, in Salem Mo., February 23, 2002.
The RallyRhybuddRacing program was also the first to field a stage rally car under the SCCA's new Historic Class rules. The oldest car actively campaigned in Performance Rally, the Team's 1968 MGB GT proved to be a solid and reliable machine for the season, suffering only one failure due to a defective head gasket. The resulting DNF at the Maine Forest ProRally was the Team's only failure to complete a rally in the 2001 season.

Driver Phil Smith comments, "This was our third season in Performance Rally, and really the first season in which we feel like we have solved a lot of the teething problems in developing an MGB for American stage rally conditions. The car has been a strong runner, especially over the past year."
Co-Driver Dallas Smith added, "We've also had several sessions at the Team O'Neil school in New Hampshire, and the lessons learned there have really helped us take advantage of everything the car has to offer. We certainly aren't in a fast car when compared with the modern machines, but we're working together well, and the car has been reliable, so we feel like the overall effort has been quite successful. The CenDiv ClubRally championship is our confirmation."
The Team's planned rally schedule for 2002 will be posted at their website, www.rhybudd.com. They are planning to run several rallies this year, including both ClubRally and ProRally events in their agenda. An important part of their plans for 2002 is to actively support the development of the Historic Class in Performance Rally.
The RallyRhybuddRacing program was launched in 1997 by dedicated MG enthusiasts Phil and Dallas Smith, aka Team Paradox, to campaign an MG in the SCCA Performance Rally series. Two years were required to find and prepare a 1968 BGT for the rigors of Performance Rally. After obtaining their rally licenses at the Ski Sawmill Performance Rally school, Team Paradox made their ProRally debut at the Susquehannock Trail ProRally in 1999.
As the Team's rally skills and car preparation knowledge increases, a more aggressive rally schedule has been pursued each year. At this point they plan to continue to refine their technique and the machine, and help build support for vintage rallying in North America.
