NayKid Racing's Scotty B. White debuted his T1 Kumho Tires/West Coast Corvette Z06 at Buttonwillow Raceway, April 29. Scotty B. White dominated the SCCA National Club Racing event by setting two new laps records and taking the overall victory. The race win also locked up the 2001 SoPac Division T1 Championship title for Scotty.
White qualified on the pole in only his first look at the track configuration. He led the 32-car field for the first half of the race. 1999 AS National Champion Ross Murray took the point, but lost it to White just before the checker. White set fastest lap and a new race lap record in the process. Scotty, the 1998 and 1999 SoPac T1 Champion, was very pleased with the performance.
"It was all good and sunshine," described White. "The Z06 was wonderful. Compared to the LS1, the Z06 pulled to 6500 RPM and had better torque. We feel that the low end torque and higher rev limit will help the Corvette in an uphill battle against the mountainous torque of the Viper."
For the first part of the 2001 SCCA National Club Racing season, White campaigned other T1 cars and used the opportunity to acquire a baseline against which to compare his new car. He feels the wait for his Z06 to be properly set up and prepared is paying off.
"We picked up the car for testing only two-weeks before the race," said White. "Ankeney Racing Enterprises helped us sort out the chassis in testing and Speedware Motorsports applied all that was learned in testing to the final setup. West Coast Corvettes and Doug Rippie Motorsports executed the Z06 conversion to perfection. The Fikse Wheels were the finishing touch. The car is as beautiful as it is fast."
White's 2001 racing season is scheduled to be as full as his 2000 season. Last year, White participated in a full schedule of Speedvision World Challenge GT events in the West Coast Corvettes DRM C500R. He and his wife LiNay won several national Solo2 and ProSolo events culminating in a third consecutive National Championship title for LiNay in their Kumho-shod racer. In addition, White challenged for the T1 podium at the 2000 Valvoline Runoff's.
This season, the NayKid Racing schedule includes championship title bids in both ProSolo and SCCA National Club Racing. He will also contest the west coast Speedvision World Challenge GT events in the DRM C500R Corvette. This schedule presents Scotty with certain logistical challenges. For example, this Memorial Day weekend he will do double duty. Scotty will be competing in the both of the SCCA double national races at Thunderhill as well as a ProSolo event 200 miles to the south in Atwater, CA.
