BMW M3 With Toyo Tires Makes A Bid For SCCA T2 Title
ROEBLING ROAD, Savannah, GA - 03/11/2006 - Turner Motorsport will be campaigning a BMW E46 M3 racecar for TOYO Tires this weekend at Roebling Road Raceway in Georgia. This will be the first race for the TOYO M3 in the SCCA T2 class in 2006. Will Turner, company president and founder, will again be behind the wheel as he begins his quest to win the T2 national title.
The TOYO/Turner Motorsport BMW M3 competes in the T2 class of SCCA Club Racing. Under the T2 rules, modifications to the M3 are limited to simple, bolt-in suspension and brake improvements and safety gear. As the leading BMW race tuner in the United States, Turner Motorsport developed the M3's T2 package through the 2005 season with the aim of winning the T2 national title in 2006.
Under the rules, Turner Motorsport has developed a range of parts for T2 racecars around the country: T2 springs manufactured by H&R, Turner Motorsport sway bars, special race exhaust, Turner Motorsport oil cooler kit, Shark Injector software, and racing brake pads. In addition, the car is equipped with a full complement of safety features: rollcage, fire suppression system, racing harnesses, and a racing seat.
With TOYO Tires as the primary sponsor, the M3 is equipped with their Proxes RA-1 DOT-approved competition tire. Through the extensive testing process last season, Turner Motorsport compared the Toyo RA-1 to all of the other major race tires and found them to be the fastest tire over a longer period of time than its competitors. The RA-1 proved to have almost as much grip at the end of the 30 minute races as at the beginning.
Will Turner is a past champion in SCCA Club Racing and has been racing and tuning BMWs since 1991. Turner also competes in the Grand Am Cup series in a BMW 330i as well as manages the team's two BMW M3 Grand Am Cup racecars. Turner Motorsport is the country's leading tuner of BMW street and race cars. From an online catalog of nearly 5000 specialized parts, BMW owners and enthusiasts can tune and modify their cars for mild street-driven commuting or for track-only driver's education, club and professional racing.
The T2 National event this weekend is part of the Tom Nehl Classic and is hosted by the Buccaneer Region of SCCA and will be a 23-lap race on Sunday (qualifying and practice on Saturday). Roebling Road is a 2.02-mile road course near Savannah, Georgia.
