235 Cars Entered In Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National

6 April 2001: The largest field of competitors in over a decade has entered the Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National to be held April 7/8 at Summit Point Raceway. The event, hosted by the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America, is the first stop in the NESCCA Championship and is a qualifying round for the Valvoline Runoffs®. The Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National brings some of the best amateur road racers in the United States to Summit Point and the field includes several current and past national champions. Don Beyer Volvo (www.donbeyervolvo.com) and Volvo Cars of North America (www.volvocars.com) are providing pace cars for the event.

Part of the surge in entries is the larger than expected contingent of cars that will be competing in Sunday's Volvo Historic Series race. The Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National is the first appearance of the Volvo Historic Series at Summit Point and this adds to the attraction. "We have wanted to invite the Volvo Historic Series for several years," said Jeff Janoska, Public Relations Chair for DC Region. Janoska added that "we could not have brought the series to Summit without the support of Don Beyer Volvo and Volvo Cars of North America."

All national SCCA classes will be eligible to compete in one of the weekend's eight national qualifying races. Classes will include the big GT1 Corvettes to the small and quick formula cars. Cars will be on the course by 8:30AM both days. For information or tickets, call 1-888-660-5039.
