Jim Schultz, Philadelphia PA, defending Northeast Division Champion in the Formula 500 class, finished fourth in a 31 car field at the Sports Car Club of America's Valvoline Runoffs at Ohio's famed Mid Ohio Sports Car track. Driving his VERIZON Invader, Formula 500 car, the SCCA's 2000 Rookie of the Year qualified fifth for the National Championship deciding race.

During the 45 mile race Schultz moved up to third place when he was challenged by Calvin Stewart of Novi MI. Throughout the late stages of the race the two drivers continued to pass and repass for position until lap 17 when Schultz opened a 3 car length lead over Stewart; however, Stewart was finally able to pass for the third position when Schultz slid wide on water from an early morning shower. Schultz again challenged Stewart on the last lap but was held up by a lapped car.

Stewart and Schultz crossed the line nose to tail. During the heated battle Schultz was able to set the fastest lap of the race. Stewart said, "On the last lap we were side by side for most of the lap and I just nipped him for third. I don't know if I could have held on for another lap. The fight with Jim was the most fun I've had in quite awhile. It was very hard racing but it was fun".

Jim, who this year tied for first place points in SCCA's Northeast Division, would like to thank his supporters and suppliers for their performance winning products and services. Schultz's thanks go to VERIZON, HOOSIER Tires, SUNOCO Race Fuel, Red Line Synthetic Oil, CYCLO Products, Quadrini Racing Enterprises, HI-TECH Clutches, MRC Performance Machine, GRAND Products, and METALCOM Products.

This is Jim's second year at he Runoffs and he said, "He could not have made it without his great supporters and suppliers".
