Erin Wollesen is sporting a new tattoo in honor of her mother Mary, who died in an unfortunate accident at Road America. Erin, who is crewing for dad Ted, has added a blue Mini to her body. Sources refuse to identify the location--sounds like further research is in order. Blue buttons with Mary's name and car number are also being handed out at Registration.

Donna England, Arizona's R.E., is helping out in Registration, as always a very friendly, pleasant crew. She also pointed out that she's the only SoPac R.E. and Registrar here this year, but is pleased to see a lot of other SoPac workers and drivers in attendance. She's been here since last Thursday.

Donna reports that there are 573 entries this year and 620 workers.

One Runoffs format change has happened since last year. Instead of two days of practice and two days of qualifying, now only Monday was a practice day, while Tuesday through Thursday are all qualifying days. SoPac's Area Director Joanne Jensen reports that "If the weather gets bad, it at least gives the competitors a better chance to have a good dry session."

Doug Marsh races a F500 car. "I'm a backmarker low-budget racer. It's my first time at the Runoffs. The track is in about as good a shape as it gets." His equipment is old ('87) and "the car and I are both way overweight!" He's hoping for a wet track, considering it the great equalizer. He's raced here twice in the rain and took home a pair of second-place finishes. "I'm on a shoestring budget; today is the first day I've ever raced on new tires!"

Mark and Ceci Smith are a couple of Cal Club flaggers, and we mean "couple." This trip is their real honeymoon, and their motorhome proclaims their new marital status. Their flagger compatriots autographed a banner identifying their motorhome as "The Honeymoon Suite," which magically appeared today. (It had taken a Prescott detour before being delivered.) I just learned that Bev Glockner-Kent and Sam Kent are also celebrating their honeymoon here.
