Over 500 Cars Entered In June Sprints
Elkhart Lake, Wisc. June 16, 2008 -- Over 500 competitors from across the nation will be racing at Road America during the Chicago Region SCCA June Sprints, June 19-22, 2008. June Sprints is the first trophy stop to win amateur racing's most prestigious title, the Triple Crown of Racing. To earn this title, competitors must win in their class at the June Sprints, win their respective divisional title and win at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
An annual fan-favorite, June Sprints is an event built on tradition. People return year-after-year to see the wide variety of cars that range from showroom stock to highly modified, purpose-built racing machines. The paddock is a great place to visit with the drivers and get a close look at the cars. One of racing's most famous families will be represented over the weekend with Mike Rahal serving as Grand Marshal. Mr. Rahal participated in some of Road America's first events and his passion for road racing has been carried on through his son Bobby and grandson Graham.
June Sprints is also Road America's annual Salute to Youth weekend -- a great opportunity for non-profit youth organizations to attend the races at reduced rates. For information about youth group discounts, call Road America. Spectator karting is available during the event at the Briggs-Stratton Motorplex. Karting is the way many of today's top racers got their start in competitive motorsports. For a fee, people ages 14 and older can take a kart out on the exciting purpose-built karting track and reach speeds of up to 50 mph. No experience is necessary and all equipment is provided.
Daily admission to the June Sprints is $15 Thursday, $20 Friday, and $30 each for Saturday and Sunday. Special ticket promotions include Cedar Crest Ice Cream Saturday and Toyota Sienna Sunday. On Saturday, spectators can turn in two 48oz Cedar Crest Ice Cream lids for one free Saturday admission. On Sunday, up to seven people arriving at the gate in a Toyota Sienna van will be given free event admission. Gates open at 7 a.m. and races run rain or shine.
