266 Cars Entered in the Racing for Reading MARRS Race
June 12, 2001: Two hundred sixty-six competitors are ready to race to raise money for the South Jefferson County Public Library in this weekend's Racing for Reading Mid-Atlantic Road Racing (MARRS) Championship event at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV. The weekend is being hosted by the Washington, DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America. "We view the Region and its members as part of the Jefferson County community and this is just one of the ways that we can be a positive force in the neighborhood," said Jeff Janoska, Assistant Regional Executive.
The Region has many fund-raising activities planned. On both Saturday and Sunday, the Region will allow cars to take lunch-time parade laps for only $20 per car and there will be a book sale in the Paddock. The track will be providing shuttle service from the spectator viewing areas to the Paddock to assist racing and reading fans in buying books. "Summit Point Raceway is being very supportive of our efforts," said Janoska.
In addition to the high-performance Corvettes, Mustangs and Formula race cars that will be competing, there will be displays by several professional racing teams during the weekend. Winchester's Prototype Technology Group will be displaying the American Le Mans Series BMW M-3's. duPont Racing will also have two of their Speedvision World Challenge BMW 328s at Summit Point. This will be the area's only chance to see both teams.
Admission for the weekend is only $25 for a weekend pass or $15 for a Sunday-only ticket. Cars are on course by 8:30AM both days and the event goes on, rain or shine. There is no charge for camping and children under the age of 12 enter free. For more information, contact 1-888-660-5039.
