Slone Qualifies P1 and Sets Track Record at 2008 SCCA Runoffs
TUCSON, Arizona -- Jamie Slone of the #6 GoPro/Molecule/Goodyear Standard Formula Mazda has qualified on the pole for the 2008 SCCA Runoffs with a record setting time of 1:32.698. Slone who settled for a 5th place finish at the 2007 Runoffs due to totaling his car in qualifying is still considered a dark horse in this years race.
Slone said." My Goodyear 430's were terrific on Monday when I set the record. I got all they had and on the 10th lap I was able to throw down a flyer that consisted of hanging wheels off four different times in the lap. I even tucked my helmet like I was in a Kart trying to streamline it to the line. I guess it worked!'
Mike Anderson who is no stranger to the podium with a second place finish in 2006 qualified P2 this year with a 1:32.745 just .047 off Slone. June Sprints, Road America winner Franklin Futrelle qualified P3 with a 1:32.942 just .25 back of Slone and has shown his speed all year long. Slone says, "I don't mind not being the favorite, in fact I kind of like it that way. My car this year has lots of new parts including a new Mazda rotary engine that is strong! I have to thank Moses Smith of MSR and Sean Mellick for helping me get my car in race ready shape. I am in a good position to start the race and just need to get out front and run 18 laps to the flag. This will be no easy task with these guys breathing down my neck but rest assured these opportunities don't come along everyday so I will be out to Go Get It!
The race is scheduled for Friday October 10th at 7:15 am Pacific Time and can be followed via Live Timing and Scoring at SCCA.com
