San Diego, CA 3/07/2000- The National Auto Sport Association announced today that Mazda USA ( Mazda Motor Corp.) will be the title sponsor of the MAZDA Charity Challenge 2000 auto racing series. This series of circle track racing events will feature MAZDA RX-7 rotary powered cars competing fender to fender to raise funds for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts. Fundraising for Fresh Start will come primarily through event ticket sales as well as corporate sponsorship. The events will take place at Cajon Speedway in San Diego and Orange Show Speedway in San Bernadino, starting April 15th, and then monthly through August 5th.

Fresh Start is a nationally recognized "Point of Light " children's charity which provides reconstructive surgery for victims of birth defects, trauma and abuse. By signing on as Title sponsor, Mazda will be empowering this racing series to make a difference for some very deserving children. "With Mazda's help, we can hopefully look forward to sell out crowds filling the grandstands at these family-oriented events," states Dr. John Reed, marketing director for the series (and a Fresh Start volunteer), "as well as getting the word out about Fresh Start's mission of service to children in need".

Unique to this series, corporate sponsorship of Fresh Start will be noted in the form of NASCAR Style paint schemes on the race cars themselves. According to Dennis Sheean, NASA Regional Director, " with a reasonable donation to Fresh Start, the donor will be entitled to design the paint and logo scheme on a race car, and become honorary team owners for the season. This feature is in line with the spirit of racing at the "Grassroots" level, where competitors dare to "live the dream". This series allows sponsors to "live the dream" of race team ownership, while actually helping to fulfill the dreams of some great kids. It's a winning game plan for everyone".
