Chasing a dream.
Some people call it chasing a dream. However, if you convey that sentiment to Moses Smith, it will produce a rare frown. Moses started out like most racers, under his parent's tutorage, in the go-karting circuit. As a youngster, he garnished moderate success. However, from there, Moses has work relentlessly to set himself apart from the rest.
"Early on," the young man explained, "I realized that racing was to be my life's work. As such, I would not call it a "dream". When you use the phrase "chasing a dream", it conjures up a picture in my mind, of someone sprinting after illusions which are getting farther and farther away. That is definitely not my strategy!"
After graduating from high school, in Escondido California, Moses tackled the task of mastering his art with a tenuousness forged in passion. Rather than relying on funds from friends and family, Moses took any and all employment he could find that could be considered sport related.
Moses' resume includes driving instructor (Jim Hall Racing Schools; Bob Bondurant School of High Performance; Skip Barber Racing School); Crew Chief for a Star Mazda Pro Team; Test Driver for Star Mountain Racing; Crew Chief for a USAC Midget Team; Fabricator for Stewart Racing Products; and Mechanic for Team Medlin.Currently, as a facilitator, Moses is Precision Dynamic's "Featured Driver". PDI (http://www.pdiusa.net) is a company that provides its clients with the highest level of creativity, service and professionalism for vehicle evaluations, launch training and communications. While 2002 is Moses' first full year in the Star Mazda arena, he has amassed an impressive scorecard to date. In the thirteen races this season, Moses managed to take six pole positions, with five first-place finishes, four second-place finishes, two fourth-place finishes, and a fifth place.
Moses commented, "It's all coming together for me. I found a great team this year, who have been both supportive and successful in placing me in a race vehicle that gets me out front".
Characteristically, Moses is being just a tad modest. R-Sport is a new team and their association has proved mutually beneficial. Moses is also very grateful to the HASA Pool Product family for their fate, hard work and active participation in this year's effort.
To this innovative racer, it is not as much about being on podium, as it is all about putting out an excellent product. Now that is reality, not a dream.
In recent years, motorsports sponsorship has proven to be an effective marketing tool for an increasingly diverse group of companies. If you are interested in the wonderful opportunities race sponsorship has to offer, Moses is always available for consultation.
