Milwaukee Region Sports Car Club National Race Cartoon Cat National at Road America This Weekend Elkhart Lake, Wisc., July 22, 2004.

The Milwaukee Region of the Sports Car Club of America will hold points races on Saturday, July 24, and Sunday July 25, at Road America. The event also includes the first Annual Spec Miata Milwaukee Cup at the race, this year called the Cartoon Cat National.

More than 60 Spec Miatas are entered with drivers from California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin competing for points.

The Milwaukee Region race awards amateur championship points.

Registration runs Friday, July 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday from 6:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Cat National, this year called Cartoon Cat National, is one of the larger regional races in the U.S. and will host more than 250 competitors at the historic race track.

The event is called the Cat National in honor of Brian Redman's cat, part racing folklore and part a tribute to the noted racer's charm, which extended to a cat that lived at the race track. Redman befriended the cat, according to the story, and it followed him around at the end of the day.

The club event is open only to Milwaukee Region SCCA members, guests, workers and crew members.
