Laguna Niguel, CA (11.13.06): Johnny Kanavas, Sean Neilson will be teaming together for this weekend's Cal Club 4-hour enduro, held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
2004 Pacific Nights Enduro Champion, Johnny Kanavas has had the 4-hour event on his schedule since 2000, taking podium finishes each year, including one win, and is currently preparing for his 4th consecutive year competing in the 25-Hours of Thunderhill in December. For this year's 4-hour, the KanavasKompetition.com/eprodius.com team will be returning with their familiar orange Mazda Miata-Cup car, which has not seen the track in well over a year. "The last race for this car was the Pro Miata Cup event at Laguna Seca in '04 where we got hit by another competitor. We actually did a photo shoot for Sports Car Magazine (cover - Oct. '04) the week after that race, fortunately not of the damaged side. The car is ready for battle again and I am looking forward to running with Sean.", comments Johnny Kanavas.
Neilson has shown that he has what it takes to win. Over the past 2 seasons in Pro-7 competition, Sean has taken one win and six podium finishes. After retiring his Pro-7, Sean moved to the poplular Spec Miata class and has taken one win and two podiums in only 4 races. "I'm excited to run with Johnny. He has been a major help to me since the superschool where he was my instructor and has become somewhat of a mentor. I think it will be fun and helpful to run with someone who has so much experience.", commented Neilson.
Handling the action in the pits will be long time KK crew chief, Brian Mezger, along with John Kanavas Sr., John Neilson, Tanya Passalacqua and others TBA.
