Sports Car Regional/National Race on Track This Weekend at HPT
TOPEKA, Kan. (June 1, 2005) - With the 2006 Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs® coming to Heartland Park Topeka, this weekend's SCCA Regional/National road race will have competitors from all over the country trying to get a leg up on the competition. Racers from Minnesota, Florida, Texas, and California are already registered to begin their preparations for 2006.
The 2.1-mile road course at Heartland Park will host a Kaw Valley Region points' race on Saturday, followed by a Midwest Division National on Sunday. Racers will all look to earn points in their respective classes to qualify for this year's SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Kohler at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in September.
Gates open each day for spectators at 8 a.m., with qualifying for race groups scheduled for 8:30 a.m. On Saturday the afternoon will begin around 1 p.m. with 11-lap regional races, and on Sunday the 22-lap national races will also begin around 1 p.m.
The sprint race format will feature more than 24 different classes of cars in six distinct race groups. Expect to see all types of race cars from lightweight open wheel formula cars to ground-pounding GT cars and everything in between.
Spectator admission is free all weekend. All spectators should enter through Gate "E" at Heartland Park Topeka.
Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
