Rahal Has Perfect Race at Mid-Ohio

NEW ALBANY, Ohio, June 9 - Graham Rahal had a perfect run in the Formula Atlantic SCCA national race last Sunday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The 16-year-old from New Albany, Ohio won the pole by a second and a half over his nearest competitor and then led every lap of the 20-lap race to beat Ben Beasley and over 40 other drivers in his class at the checkered.

Rahal drove a Team Rahal Formula Atlantic race car that was serviced by Andersen Walko Racing for this event. It is sponsored by The Bobby Rahal Automotive Group, Bosch, Renier Construction and Norwalk Furniture.

"It was a good race," Rahal said. "He [Beasley] hung on to me the first couple of laps, but then I pulled away by about lap three and was just gone. I won by 15 seconds.

"Just getting through lapped traffic was the hardest part," he added. "There was one big incident, but it didn't involve me."

Mid-Ohio is the track closest to his home, and his first victory there came in only his second race there ever. His first race at the facility was a Star Mazda race there on May 21, where he finished tenth.

This Saturday Rahal will compete in a Star Mazda race that is a support event to the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 race in Montreal. He is one of four drivers for Andersen Walko Racing entered in that event. Rahal is currently fourth in that series' national point standings.

His next SCCA Formula Atlantic race will be at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex near Pittsburgh on June 18-19. BeaveRun is the home track for Andersen Walko Racing.

Rahal's Web site will debut soon at grahamrahal.com, while his sponsor's Web site is at bobbyrahal.com. His Star Mazda team's Web site is at andersenwalko.com.
