Goodyear Wins 11 Times in SCCA National Event at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 17, 2004) -- No tiremaker has dominated Sports Car Club of America racing the way Goodyear has and the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker is at it again in 2004.

No tiremaker won more races at the recent SCCA national points event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Goodyear won 11 of a possible 22 races and the wins came on both Goodyear's bias-ply and DOT radial tires. Goodyear-equipped teams from across the SCCA spectrum collected wins.

The victories are especially important since they came at Mid-Ohio, the famed racing circuit where the SCCA Runoffs, amateur racing's national championship in this country, will be held in September. Goodyear has won 41 of the last 69 national championship races at the Runoffs since 2001.

In the open-wheeled formula classes, Goodyear won five times. Justin Barker won in Formula Vee, the Formula Continental win went to Rick Silva, James Bach won in Formula Mazda, John Bender won in C Sports Racer and Matt DeRenzo won in D Sports Racer.

Teams using Goodyear tires won twice in the GT classes as Mike Cyphert won in GT3 and John Birk won in GT 4.

In the Production classes, three Goodyear-shod cars won as John Saurino won the F Production race, Mark Dennis won in G Production and Matt Brannon was the winner in H Production.

Andrew Aquilante got Goodyear's win with a DOT radial tire, winning in Touring 1.

The Runoffs' three days of championship racing begin on Friday, Sept. 24.
