STOUT PERFORMANCE BY GOODYEAR TIRES PACES SCCA EVENT
TOPEKA, Kan. (June 11, 2006) -- Brad Stout is at it again. Stout, a former Sports Car Club of America national champion, won the Formula Vee portion of the SCCA regional event at Heartland Park Topeka and indicated to all that he is ready for another run at the national title.
So is Goodyear. The regional race at HPT was an important mid-season indicator, as the track will be the site of the 2006 SCCA National Championship Runoffs. A Runoffs victory is the Holy Grail for amateur road racers.
Goodyear's SCCA tires are all built at the Technical Center Manufacturing in Akron, Ohio.
No tiremaker has been as successful at the Runoffs as Goodyear. In fact, all other tiremakers combined fail to supply tires to as many Runoffs winners as Goodyear does.
At HPT, the Goodyear wins came on bias-ply tires, radial tires and DOT radial tires. Goodyear-shod teams won in open-wheel categories, production-based GT categories, production categories and touring categories. All told, Goodyear-equipped cars won 10 times.
Stout's victory came on bias-ply tires in the Formula Vee class. Other Goodyear winners in the open-wheel classes included Nicki Coello in Formula Continental, Mike Anderson in Formula Mazda and Chris Funk in Spec Racer Ford. The Goodyear winners in open wheel cars all raced on bias-ply tires.
Bill Gray won the GT1 class for big horsepower cars on Goodyear radial tires. Pete Peterson (GT3) and Peter Zekert (GT Light) won on bias-ply tires from Goodyear.
Tom Thrash's victory in E Production came on Goodyear bias-ply tires.
Monte Cowles and Chuck Hemmingson won on DOT radial tires built by Goodyear. Cowles' win came in American Sedan and Hemmingson won in Touring 2.
