March 15, 2001: Forty-six entrants have indicated that they will enter the 3rd Annual 12 Hours at the Point Endurance Race to be held June 1-2, 2001. Only fifty cars will be allowed to start the event held at Summit Point Raceway, so competitors intending to enter need to submit their intents soon. While only the third running of a 12 hour event at Summit Point, the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America has hosted numerous 12 hour endurance events beginning with the 12 Hours of Marlboro held in the 1950s at the defunct Marlboro Raceway.

The Radial Tire Datsun 240z of Lucas/Jeter/Gaynor/Legg won the inaugural 12 Hours at the Point, held during 1999 and also hold the record for the most laps completed - 450. The 2000 winner, the Craftsman Automotive Mazda Miata of Moorcones/Rooney/Ball completed only 439 laps, but hold the closest margin of victory - 2 laps.
