Don Beyer Volvo (www.donbeyervolvo.com), with three locations in Northern Virginia, and the Washington D.C. Region of the Sports Car Club of America (www.wdcr-scca.org) announced today that Don Beyer Volvo would sponsor the Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National Races. The event, to be held April 7 and 8, 2001 at Summit Point Raceway, will feature the first visit of the Volvo Historic Series to Summit Point Raceway. Don Beyer Volvo is a long supporter of DC Region and we are very grateful for their willingness to support grassroots motor sports. In addition to supplying the pace car for the event, the three Don Beyer Volvo dealerships will be displaying cars at the event.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the first visit of the Volvo Historic Series to a DC Region event. The series, sponsored by Volvo of North America, features cars produced before 1973 and prepared to 1973 competition rules. The series usually brings Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros and European sports cars from the 1960's and early 1970's. These are the cars from sports car racing's golden years.
The Beyer Volvo Capitol National is a qualifying race for the Valvoline Runoffs, SCCA's National Championship event. All national SCCA classes will be eligible to compete in one of the weekend's eight national qualifying races. Classes will include the big GT1 Corvettes to the small and quick formula cars. The event brings some of the best amateur road racers in the United States to Summit Point. Past competitors include such SCCA National Champions Neal Sapp, Rob Hines, Jeff Altenburg and Paul Newman.
Tickets for the entire weekend are only $20. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult and there is no additional charge for camping. Cars will be on the course by 8:30AM both days. For information or tickets, call 1-888-660-5039.
