"Dramatic victory at Laguna Seca"

Coeur d'Alene, ID - November 1, 2007 - Brett Smrz of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho scored his fifth victory in the 2007 season and currently remains unbeaten in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) San Francisco Region Formula Ford 1600 series. Smrz battled wheel to wheel with last year's series champion in dramatic fashion, as the duo fought for victory over the October 26th- 27th weekend at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca event.

After qualifying in the second position behind last year's title winner Alex Schutte, the Idaho resident was determined to improve on his position in the main event. Classified as the most exciting race in the FF1600 action this season, Smrz and Schutte went head-to-head to see who would take the Laguna Seca victory.

As the duo traded the point on several occasions, Smrz became more and more comfortable with his car and began to attack the challenging Mazda Raceway. The 16 year old pilot was able to take over the lead in the late stages of the race and drove on to victory. On route, Smrz also claimed the fast lap award and was able to remain perfect in FF1600 action since losing a portion of his left leg earlier in the season.

"I wanted to come here and prove that the first event was not a fluke," explained Smrz after the event. "A lot of people thought that I would be hesitant on getting back in a race car, but I feel good. With each and every passing lap, I feel that I am getting more comfortable behind the wheel."

Brett would like to thank Dr. Douglas G. Smith from the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle WA, Don Meng from Shindler Orthotic Service's in Spokane WA, and Brad Sharples from North Idaho Physical Therapy in Post Falls, ID, for their continued hard work to get him back behind the wheel in top physical form. Brett would also like to thank Neil Porter and the Porter Racing crew for a short, but fantastic season in the Formula Fords.

Brett will trade his FF1600 for a 125cc Rotax, and enjoy little time off, as the talented driver will jump back behind the wheel of a First Kart at the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals. Smrz will once again join the FirstKart.com race team and compete in the Rotax Senior class at this prestigious event.
