RP Performance Announces 12 Hours at the Point Contingency Program

May 12, 2004: RP Performance of Manassas Park, Virginia, a specialist in the repair, tuning and preparation of all Mazda Vehicles since 1994, and the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that RP Performance had joined the contingency program for the 6th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point Presented by King Rat Motorsports and Victory by Design Motorsports Graphics . Held on Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV, the once-around-the-clock race is the longest perennially held endurance race sanctioned by the SCCA.

"RP Performance is thrilled to be part of this prestigious event," said Bret de Pedro, President of RP Performance. de Pedro is a long-time member of the DC Region and well-respected competitor in the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series. According to de Pedro, "RP Performance has participated in the 12 Hours at the Point as a team sponsor for several years, but this is the first year we've established a contingency prize for the event."

RP Performance has established contingency prizes for teams competing in the Showroom Spec Miata, Spec Miata and Spec RX7 categories. "We specialize in the repair and preparation of the types of cars that compete in these three categories and believe that the 12 Hours at the Point is an excellent way to demonstrate that the cars we prepare are both fast and reliable," said de Pedro.

"We are very happy to welcome RP Peformance as a contingency sponsor for The Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point Presented by King Rat Motorsports and Victory by Design Motorsports Graphics," said Jeff Janoska of the Region. "The support that we are receiving from companies like RP Performance who have their foundations in grassroots racing is amazing," added Janoska. According to Janoska, RP Performance has raised the bar for contingency sponsors, "Most sponsors award a single prize to a team, but RP Performance intends to award a prize to each driver on a winning team."

de Pedro is surprised that this isn't done more often, "This is an endurance race and the teams are large. It is difficult for a single prize to be split among several teams."

Specific details of the RP Performance contingency prize may be found on the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point Presented by King Rat Motorsports and Victory by Design Motorsports Graphics website (www.12hoursatthepoint.org). The race, like all SCCA races at Summit Point, will take place rain or shine.
