Contingency established for Honda and Acura Teams in Kumho Tires 12 Hours.
The Washington DC Region of the SCCA announced today that all Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point competitors in either a Honda or an Acura would be eligible for contingency prizes. Two Baltimore-Washington area dealerships -- one a Honda dealership and the other an Acura dealership -- have established the prizes. The May 31-June 1 event will be held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia. At least five teams will be attempting the 12 Hour race in a Honda or an Acura.
"The Region would like to thank the dealerships for establishing this contingency prize," said Jeff Janoska Region PR Liaison. Janoska added, "Both Honda and Acura have been a strong supporters of grassroots motorsports and Honda teams have done well in previous 12 Hours at the Point." Honda took the ITA win in 2000 and 2001 and also took the ITC win in 2001. This year, an Acura Integra will be attempting the overall win in ITS.
"The endurance format will showcase the reliability of our cars," said the Honda Dealership. The dealer added, "We're proud to be part of one of SCCA's premier grassroots endurance races." Honda has a long and well-established history in motorsports, both domestically and internationally.
An Acura has yet to challenge the 12 Hours at the Point, but the manufacturer has had considerable success in the Speed World Challenge Series and in the American Road Race of Champions. Currently, Acura-equipped teams lead the points in the Speed World Challenge GT Series and the Speed World Challenge Touring Series.
Details of the contingency program will be made available to teams at Summit Point. The event is open to spectators. For more information, visit www.12hoursatthepoint.org.
