Higgins nabs spot on Racing All-America ballot

TOPEKA, Kan. (Nov. 26, 2003) -- The American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association announced Monday that 2003 SCCA ProRally Overall Champion David Higgins is listed on the ballot for the AARWBA All-America Team.

The All-America team, determined by 300 writers from across the nation, is open to both American and foreign-born drivers, and the Isle-of-Man native capped off one of the most successful seasons ever in the ProRally Championship. A winner of seven out of nine events, Higgins won three races consecutively two separate times in 2003, including the first three events of the year. His average margin of victory was two minutes and 15 seconds with his largest time spread coming at the Susquehannock Trail ProRally, where he beat out second-place finisher Tim O'Neil by more than six minutes.

Driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution for Team Mitsubishi Motor Sports America, Higgins paired up with co-driver Daniel Barritt to turn those seven wins into his second-consecutive Overall Drivers' Championship.

This marks the second time Higgins has appeared on an AARWBA All-America ballot. His first was in 2002 when he received an honorable mention.

Members of the First Team will be recognized at the annual AARWBA banquet in Pomona, Calif., Jan. 10.
