SCCA Pro Racing® adds Pro Miata Challenge to Mid America weekend
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (June 26, 2002)- SCCA Pro Racing has added a Pro Miata Challenge race to the July 13-14 Mid America Motorplex weekend featuring the Pro Spec Racer series along with the Mid-American Racing Series Super Trucks and Stock Car series.
Utilizing rules similar to the Spec Miata class run across much of the country in SCCA Club Racing events, the Pro Miata Challenge features first generation body style Mazda Miata cars (1990-1998) with minor, identical modifications permitted.
"Spec Miata is a very fun class for drivers because not only are the cars fun to drive, they are very equal in performance, making for good racing," said Mitch Wright, Vice President and General Manager of SCCA Pro Racing. "Because they race very close, it makes for an exciting show for fans."
Spec Miata is one of the most popular, growing classes in grassroots racing because of the inexpensive cars and close competition. In early June, Mazdaspeed, Mazda's motorsports division, sponsored an SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca that drew over 70 cars for a weekend run in conjunction with CART.
The Mid America promoter has posted a $3,000 payout, with first place earning $1000-five times the cost of an entry fee.
