Cal Club Loses One Of Its Best

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - The Cal Club racing community is mourning the loss of Jeff Nadler, who died at Kern Medical Center on Sunday night, March 23, 1997, from head and neck injuries he sustained after he fell from his van while retrieving ice chests off the corner stations at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. He was 49.

Nadler was a lifetime SCCA member, having joined Cal Club in 1980. At the 1996 Valvoline Runoffs, he had received SCCA's most prestigious award-the BFGoodrich Worker of the Year for his contributions as Cal Club's race chairman. In addition to those duties, he also served on Cal Club's board of governors and was the driving force behind the many successful membership booths, racing awareness programs at area schools and fund-raising activities for building Buttonwillow Raceway Park. With long-time racing friend Paul Wittrock, Nadler also occasionally raced in his immaculately prepared Swift DB-1 Formula Ford, winning several Southern Pacific Division regional championships. He had held National competition and Race Control licenses, as well as a crew license. In 1995, Jeff was doubly honored by Cal Club's Flag Team as its Worker/Driver of the Year and was named the Mark Verbofsky Open-Wheel Sportsmanship Award recipient. His dedication to Cal Club and SCCA was unparalleled, and his absence will be felt forever.

Nadler owned Jeff Nadler Studios, and was a respected commercial automotive photographer, whose professionalism and dedication to perfection was known throughout the industry. He is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, Phyllis; children Daina, 24, and Matthew, 13; two brothers and two sisters; as well as many racing and professional friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established an educational trust fund for Matthew Nadler. For those who wish to contribute, please send checks to The Matthew Nadler Educational Trust, c/o American Pacific State Bank, 15260 Ventura Blvd., Suite 1600, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at Forest Lawn, 1712 South Glendale Ave., in Glendale. A picnic celebration of Jeff's life will follow at Verdugo Park in Glendale. For complete funeral information, please call (213) 896-8207. To send cards and letters to the family, please address to Phyllis, Daina and Matthew Nadler, 15923 Joseph Court, Sylmar, CA 91342.
