BSI Racing: Will Start Strong on Sunday's MX-5 Cup Race at Laguna Seca
BSI Racing is campaigning four Mazda MX-5 race cars at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this Sunday in the SCCA Pro Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Drivers include Todd Buras in the No. 56 car, Carlos Garcia in the No. 60 car, Andrew Carbonell in the No. 58 car and Steven Bernheim in the No. 59 car. The team is already off to a stellar start after earning a second and fifth place qualifying position on Saturday morning. Buras qualified in second place and Carbonell was a tenth of a second from Buras and finished in fifth place.
Buras has an affinity for the race track and has consistently turned times in the top-five this race weekend. Buras has been helping 17 year-old Carbonell learn the track and as they are both turning consistent top-ten lap times. This is the first time Carbonell has raced on the California track let alone on this side of the country.
The rookie driver is turning impressive lap times being this his first stint on the course. "We have been changing the car all weekend and it keeps getting better," said the Miami driver, Carbonell. "BSI is a great team and they are really helping me since this is my first time on track. It's great to work with Todd and I can't wait for this Sunday." The Laguna Seca race is Carbonell's second event of the season with BSI and finished 5th in the last race at Road Atlanta. Carbonell's consistent results will help pave the way for a bright future in racing.
Along with Buras and Carbonell, Carlos Garcia has also been turning competitive lap times. Garcia is splitting the race weekend with Buras between the MX-5 Cup car and an MX-5 car in the KONI Challenge with BSI Racing. So far both drivers have been able to keep their cool between the two series.
Steven Bernheim is another driver doing duel stints this weekend. Bernheim is racing for BSI in the MX-5 Cup car and also with the KONI Challenge GS team, BGB Motorsports in a Porsche 997. Bernheim's lap times have improved with each session on track.
BSI Racing is going into the Sunday afternoon race with an optimistic attitude and an excellent driver lineup.
