RACE #16 - Spec Racer Sports Car picks: Tom Van Camp, Spec Racer B. J. Zacharias, Spec Racer Bob Bartlett, Spec Racer Grid: Tom Van Camp, John Hollansworth,Jr., B. J. Zacharias LAP 1: 36 cars take the green flag. Van Camp leads the pack into the first turn. One car spins sideways in the middle of the pack but the field is able to avoid him. Hollansworth gets by Van Camp to lead the first lap. Bunton is in third followed by Zacharias, Mariano, and Briand. LAP 2: Hollansworth and Van Camp pull out a slight lead over the rest of the field. LAP 3: Van Camp closes up on Hollansworth under braking but can't quite get by. They come by the S/F line nose to tail. LAP 4: Hollansworth continues to lead but Van Camp is staying right with him. Bunton is still in third with Zacharias and Mariano close behind. LAP 5: Van Camp trying to get by Hollansworth on both sides and in every turn but Hollansworth continues to hold him off. Bunton and Zacharias have opened up a gap behind them. Briand gets by Mariano into fifth. LAP 6: Mariano loses another position to Gregor Moe. Less than a car length between the leaders Hollansworth and Van Camp. LAP 7: Two cars - Schofield and Mariano - come together between 7 and 8 and slide off into the sand bank. Substantial damage to the cars but the drivers are out and appear to be OK. Leaders are now Hollansworth, Van Camp, Bunton, Zacharias, Briand, Moe, Burney, Black, and Jacobsen. LAP 8: Pace car will be coming out and the race will be under a full course yellow. LAP 9: Pace car picks up the leaders and slows the field. LAP 10: Pace car will be pulling in at the end of this lap and the field will resume racing, now bunched up behind the leaders. LAP 11: Spin at turn 1 by Benet and slid into the guardrail. Zacharias has joined the lead battle with Hollansworth and Van Camp, leaving Bunton behind. Evans goes off at eight and taps the concrete but continues. LAP 12: Hollansworth, Van Camp and Zacharias are in a tight battle for the lead with barely a car length between the cars. They have a two second advantage over the fourth place car of Bunton. LAP 13: Zacharias goes around Van Camp through turn 1. Zacharias moves to close on Hollansworth but Van Camp is still right behind. Jacobsen and Green get together at turn nine. LAP 14: Van Camp goes around Zacharias at turn 7 to take over second. LAP 15: Top three continue to run very close together. Leaders are Hollansworth, Van Camp, Zacharias, Bunton, Briand, Moe, Burney, Bowden, Black, and Kaminsky. LAP 16: Hollansworth and Van Camp now open up a gap back to third place Zacharias. LAP 17: Van Camp tries a move at turn 1 but couldn't hold the line into turn 2. Hollansworth keeps the lead. Lowe spins between 7 and 8 but keeps it off the concrete and continues. LAP 18: Lowe pulls into the pits. Hollansworth still leads Van Camp by about a car length. Zacharias is about two seconds behind in third. LAP 19: Van Camp tries a move on the outside at turn 7 can't make it. Then tries the inside. Side by side at turn nine. Van Camp makes the pass and takes the National Championship over Hollansworth. Zacharias closes on Hollansworth at the finish but comes up short. Fourth goes to Bunton followed by Briand. Race# 16 SR B.J.
