TOPEKA, Kan. (May 30, 2003) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced today the introduction of the Hankook Tires Bonus Program for the Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires, rewarding participants in events with 30 or more cars entered. In addition, a multi-event entry discount and minor adjustments to the 2003 schedule were announced.

The Hankook Tires Bonus Program awards $150 per weekend to each driver that competes in a Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires event, when the field reaches 30 more participants.

The multi-event entry discount offers competitors a $150 discount if they enter either Tour's season-finale weekend and one other regular-season Tour event. For example, Pacific Tour competitors would receive the $150 discount upon entering the doubleheader event at Pacific Raceways and the single event at Portland International Raceway. For competitors in the Atlantic Tour, they would receive the discount if they enter the doubleheader at Grattan Raceway and either the doubleheader at Road America or the single event at VIRginia International Raceway.

"These programs offer competitors additional financial reasons to compete in the series beyond the already attractive purse and contingency programs," said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manger. "The Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires has strong backing from Hankook Tires and Mazdaspeed and will continue to grow as the season progresses."

With the recent addition of a doubleheader weekend at Road America, SCCA Pro Racing officials announced several changes to the 2003 schedule. The events at California Speedway and Carolina Motorsports Park have been removed from the schedule. The Pacific Tour will now consist of seven races and the Atlantic Tour will feature an eight round schedule, with both Tours participating in the doubleheader SCCA North American Championship weekend Oct. 18-19, at Heartland Park Topeka.

The SCCA North American Championship event is now considered an open weekend, meaning that competitors are not required to have participated in previous series events to enter. The SCCA North American Champion will be crowned based upon points from a driver's six best Tour finishes and both events of the doubleheader weekend. Any points received by a driver outside of the Tour they are participating in will not be counted toward the North American Championship.

Drivers contesting either the Pacific or Atlantic Tour Championship may still count up to two Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tire events outside of their primary Tour toward their specific Championship. As an example, a driver in the Atlantic Tour may count two Pacific Tour events in their point total for the Atlantic Tour Championship in place of two lower Atlantic Tour finishes.
