Holman awarded seat in Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series
PHOENIX, AZ - Chris Holman turned a dream into reality in Phoenix on the weekend by being one of four residents of Canada to be selected with 26 other drivers to contest the VW Jetta TDI Cup series presented by Volkswagen America Inc. and the SCCA.
Chris arrived at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix on Thursday, April 3 as one of 65 hopefuls and left as one of the privileged 30 drivers to earn a full ride in what promises to be a very exciting race series.
"The weekend was everything I hoped it would be" commented Chris. "My preparations in media presentation, physical fitness and previous track experience have paid off. I can't say enough about the VW staff, the support staff and the shootout judges. They put on an amazing event I will never forget".
The VW Jetta TDI Cup is part of Volkswagen's North American product launch for the 2009 Jetta TDI with clean diesel technology. The drivers will support the effort throughout the year with personal appearances, media interviews and of course on track showing what these extraordinary vehicles are capable of. "VW has really sorted these cars out" enthused Chris. "They are fast and safe and will bring out the best the drivers have to offer. With the parity amongst drivers we should have close racing right to the checkers in the last race of the season"
The season begins April 25-27 at VIRginia International Raceway with Grand- Am / SPEED Touring Car, travels north to Mosport International Raceway May 17-18 with the Canadian Touring Car / MX-5 Cup, then to Lime Rock Park Connecticut on Aug 14-17 with NASCAR Camping World Series, followed by Iowa Speedway on Sept. 19-20 with USAR Hooters Pro Cup, then New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sept. 27-28 with SPEED World Challenge/ARCA, and finally Road Atlanta on Oct. 1-3 with ALMS / SPEED World Challenge.
