Caleb Kenney Lands 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Race Seat in The Valley of The Sun

Caleb Kenney broke off the off-season rust and got back into competition from this past weekend. Kenney was invited by Volkswagen of America to Firebird Raceway in Chandler, AZ to test the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Racecar. Based on driving ability, media skill, physical performance, and brand promotion, Volkswagen of America has selected Kenney to race in the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup.

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup is the first series of its kind in North America with all cars utilizing Volkswagen's new TDI clean diesel engine. The new diesel power plant is the cleanest diesel engine in North America. Because of this fact, Volkswagen was able to receive a CarbonFree certification from CarbonFund.org, a DC based non-profit organization. Volkswagen has gone far beyond the call of duty in consideration of the environment by receiving the CarbonFree certification and promoting the recycling cause, with all the furniture and hospitality products made from recycled material.

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup will compete a total of eight times, with the first race taking place at VIRginia International Raceway on April 27th. All races will have a 30 minute tape delayed broadcast on Speed Channel and will be a support series with major events from the American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am Road Racing Series to ARCA and NASCAR sanctioned events.

Caleb Kenney had this to say about his selection into the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. "I'm really excited to race in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup this year! Going to major tracks and supporting majors series, along with being on TV, is going to be great for my career. I really have to thank Volkswagen for all of their efforts in putting this program together. It obviously took a lot of work to get a program this big off the ground. What drew me to the series is that Volkswagen was able to receive the CarbonFree certification by CarbonFund. Being from Berkeley, the capital of green, it's very important that I reduce my effect on the environment. Being in the auto racing industry, doing that is very tough, but Volkswagen has made it easy for me this year!"

Caleb Kenney will attend the first Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup race at VIRginia International Raceway, held with Grand-Am Road Racing, April 25th-27th.
