Borcheller edges Caddell for Pole at Miller Motorsports Park
Tooele, UT (21 September 2008)- For the second time this weekend, Terry Borcheller and Andrew Caddell made it an all-StableOne Racing front row for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup with the duo qualifying first and second for the season-finale at Miller Motorsports Park as Borcheller edged the recently crowned Champion Caddell by just .295-seconds to take the top spot on the grid.
Metro Motorsport driver Joe Lee Middlebrooks scored his Mustang Challenge career-best qualifying result with a run to third in the Ford Mustang FR500S. Middlebrooks will start alongside another driver who scored his best grid spot of 2008 as Ted Anthony Jr. took fourth in the TC Motorsports machine during the 30-minute qualifying session.
"It was great to be fastest in the morning practice, but I was really hoping to do it here in qualifying," said Caddell, who clinched the inaugural Mustang Challenge Championship with his run to second place in Friday's round seven at Miller Motorsports Park. "But it's another StableOne 1-2 so I'm happy for the team. It was great to go out there without any pressure on me. I'd like to say I am going to be able to give Terry a run in the race, but he's strong in all the places where you can pass here, unfortunately. But you never know so we'll go for it this afternoon."
24 Ford Mustang FR500S machines set times during the session as the Mustang Challenge races to a conclusion on the same track that launched the innovative series.
"Hypersort has prepared a great, great car for me and I just love this track," said Middlebrooks, who calls Alabama home. "I am driving with a lot more confidence, and I'm just getting better at this track. It's a lot to take in here, so you can't pick it all up in just a few sessions. Hopefully this qualifying holds come race time! I'm having a great time--this is a great series, and I just feel so fortunate to be here."
The final race of the 2008 Mustang Challenge season is slated to take the green flag at 3:45 PM local (mountain) time.
