10 to 1: Egginton clinches first win of the season
Chris Egginton got his 2004 Michelin Porsche Club campaign off to a fantastic start by winning the opening round at Croft, after starting from 10th on the grid in his teamgvr.com backed Porsche 968 Club Sport.
"I had a poor qualifying session" said Chris, "but I made up for it with a blinding start and was in 6th by the first corner".
Egginton's first win of the season was helped somewhat by the battle between the 911's of Ian White and Rod Carman resulting in contact, with fellow Team GVR 968CS teammate Peter Morris having to take to the grass in avoidance. With the front three cars otherwise occupied Egginton seized the opportunity to take the lead, which he held on to for the remainder of the race.
"This may have been a fortuitous win at Croft, but I was glad to take it" comments Chris.
Peter Morris went on the take 3rd place, giving the Team cause for celebration after the first race of the season resulted in two podium finishes.
The second race on the Sunday was wet; giving the 911's the advantage at the start. Egginton had a poor start and went down to 5th, however he fought his way back up to 2nd place only to loose it on the penultimate lap on the way out of the Esses.
Chris explained after the race: "The red mist came down and I went flat into the Esses. I should have settled for 2nd."
Peter Morris collected his second trophy of the weekend with another 3rd place, despite a couple of spins in the wet conditions.
