Walker sixth in Montreal!
Travis Walker, top Ontario driver at Grand Prix weekend
MONTREAL, QUEBEC - The 26th edition of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montreal played host for the second round of the Honda Michelin Challenge Series on June 12th. Mississauga racer, Travis Walker recorded his best finish of the year thus far with a solid sixth place. With that sixth he was the top Ontario driver, and he now leads the rookie points chase.
"It has been an incredible weekend here in Montreal," Walker said. "Our Oakville Honda Civic performed well all weekend, thanks to Jonak Brothers Racing. It is great to be part of an event this big - the atmosphere here is incredible."
Walker started off the weekend, by being part of a pit stop competition in downtown Montreal with other drivers from the series - then it was down to work learning a new track.
"Travis is very methodical in his approach to going quick," Team Owner Mark Jonak said. "He works it out, then gets up to speed quite quickly."
After attending the BAR Honda dinner on Friday night, Walker set his sights on qualifying, where he qualified sixth. During the race, he exchanged several positions before having to come to a stop when another competitor ahead of him was hit from behind at the hairpin. "That made me loose touch with the lead group. I was just waiting for them to start fighting, then I could have moved up."
With a solid sixth place, Walker now looks forward to round three of the series back at Mosport this coming weekend.
"We have a plan," Walker said. "I think it is coming together. We are getting points in each round, and that will pay off as the year goes along. I'm happy with our results so far, and I'm really going to try to get the Oakville Honda/Ace Auto Collision/Signs Alive/Loft Transportation Logistics Honda Civic on the podium at Mosport next weekend."
