LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 26, 2002) - The popular Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, which was won for the first time by female drivers in both the Pro and Celebrity divisions, will be broadcast for the first time this Sunday, April 28, on ESPN from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PDT.

The 26th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, which featured professional drivers and celebrities battling in identically prepared Toyota Celica GTs on the famed 1.97-mile Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach race circuit, was won by Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Dara Torres in the Celebrity Division and open-wheel racecar driver Danica Patrick in the Pro Division.

Other celebrities who drove in the 10-lap event included Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek's" 'Captain Picard'), Goran Visnjic ('Dr. Luka Kovac' in NBC's "ER"), Bill Goldberg (Actor, Former WCW Champion Wrestler), Dulé Hill ('Charlie Young' in NBC's "West Wing"), Thomas Gibson ('Greg' in ABC's "Dharma and Greg"), Christopher Kennedy Masterson ('Francis,' FOX's "Malcolm in the Middle"), Christopher Titus (FOX's "Titus"), Patrick Warburton (FOX's "The Tick"), Jacob Young ('Lucky Spencer,' ABC's "General Hospital") and Brian Cranston ('Hal,' FOX's "Malcolm in the Middle").

Also in the field were Keith Crain (Publisher Automotive News, AutoWeek), and Dave Pasant, who earned a spot by making a bid of $65,000 for the 2002 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race seat at the 2001 Toyota Grand Prix Charity Ball auction. Driving in the Pro Division were 2001 race champion Tom Rudnai, the first Toyota dealer to win the race; Sarah Fisher (rising Indy Racing League star); Tommy Kendall (Trans Am Champion), and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (ABC's "NYPD Blue" and a former race participant).

The half-hour Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race program was produced by the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach's in-house television production group, Grand Prix Teleproductions.

The Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race will also be broadcast on ESPN2 Sunday, May 12, from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. PDT.
