The German F3 championship looks more likely to go ahead. The series had been threatened by a lack of coverage for the German Touring Car championship. Now the latter has been saved, the former looks more likely. DSF is to show quarter of an hour of qualifying, Saturdays race live, and Sundays delayed.

Nissan submits aero package

Nissan has put its 1999 aerodynamics package before the JAF (Japanese Automobile Federation) for approval. It is the only manufacturer to do so so far. Other companies are still finalising their packages.

Gow threatens 'Dark warfare'

Alan Gow has said that any "dark warfare" in the first night race of the BTCC this season will be dealt with severely. The race will take place in July.

ex-Onyx to enter BTCC

A team consisting of many members of the long defunct Onyx F1 team is to enter the BTCC this season in the independents cup. The team, Arena International Motorsport, is run by Mike Earle. The team will run a Renault Laguna.

Ford misses test

The Ford BTCC team, run by Prodrive, failed to run at Vallelunga this week. They are believed to be testing at Donington Park. They are expected to test at Misano next week.

Volvo gets counterbid from GM

The takeover of Volvo by Ford is not as certain as initially announced yesterday. Volvo has been reported by PA as offering GBP 9.3b for the entire Volvo operation. Ford had offered GBP 3.9b for the cars operation.

Ford buys Volvo

Ford has purchased Volvo Cars for $6 billion. The Swedish car maker had been thought to be under offer from Ford and Fiat.

The move may have the biggest implications on Volvo's touring car program. Ford has a policy of only one marque per series, and now both Ford and Volvo are represented in touring cars. It also knocks TWRs hopes of getting Volvo to badge the Hart F1 engine.
