Plato impressed with Triple Eight
Jason Plato, the Renault refuge, has said he is happy with what he's found at Triple Eight who are running him in a Vauxhall this year.
"In my short time with Triple Eight Vauxhall, I have got to know the management, the designers, the engineers, the mechanices and my two new team-mates - and I can honestly say that I am confident that the team will be successful this year. Everybody is extremely motivated and hyped up about the races ahead. If effort and dedication is a good indicator, then we will win every race."
BTCC opens to Class B
The BTCC is to open to a second class in 2000, Alan Gow has confirmed, whilst denying it was a move simply to bolster grids.
"Before Christmas, we had a brief discussion with representatives from some competitors, but it was felt that their plans for 2000 were too far advanced to make a wholesale switch to the BTCC. However, since then, a number of team owners have indicated that they really do want to compete in the big time, so we have taken the decision to formulate a class for them within the BTCC."
BTCC to go twin class?
The British Touring Car Championship may run to two classes this year, with Class 2 and cars that run in the National Saloon Cup. The team owners of Team Dynamics and Triple Eight are pushing hard for the series to be opened up. Suggestions have also been made that it would provide a safety net if the new for 2001 rules fail. The RAC MSA would have to approve the move.
Gas Vectra cancelled
Plans to enter a gas powered Vauxhall Vectra have been scrapped due to a shortage in the budget. Mark Ticehurst had planned to race it, but the funding has failed to appear.
