Superb fourth place for PETRONAS Motorsports Endurance at Manfeild, NZ
Giant-killing result is perfect reward for hard week's work

EVENT : Quality Hotel 4-Hour race ,

Manfeild DATE: 31 May
2003 RACE DURATION: 4 hrs
Grid position: 7th overall, 1st in Class B

Final result: 4th overall, 1st in Class B

A superb fourth place overall and an easy class win at Manfeild proved that Fariqe and Mashlino in their PETRONAS-backed Honda Civic are a force to be reckoned with in endurance racing. After the cruel disappointment of last week's race at Taupo when Fariqe crashed heavily while in third position overall , the team had to pull out all the stops to rebuild their racer in time; and the two drivers repaid their hard work in full.

Fariqe: "It was a tiring race for me after my big crash last week. The team did a great job and I am so happy to have repaid their faith in me with this result."

Mashlino: "This was a great result for us and for the PETRONAS team. I really enjoyed my double stint mid-race, especially tussling with the larger-capacity cars."

Richard Lester, Operations Manager, said: " We earned this result with a lot of hard work! Fariqe deserves respect for driving so well after his big accident just a few days ago, and Mashlino was heroic with a fine drive of almost three hours. They did us proud.

David Wong, Team Principal, said: "I am very proud of the whole team. To finish fourth overall ahead of many more powerful cars is a big achievement. Racing is a serious business in New Zealand and we've proved we're up to it. We have the performance and consistency that's essential in endurance racing."
