Hard luck hits Liuzzi at Dubai
Vitantonio Liuzzi faced an hard luck in the second Dubai round of the Speedcar Series. The Italian, test driver of Formula One's Force India team, was involved in a spiral of contacts and technical issues that prevented him from scoring points. Liuzzi, who swept his maiden win at Dubai in December, suffered from a rough start since practice, when a throttle problem left him with a total toll of 3 laps. Despite the issue and some further brake troubles, he clocked the third fastest lap in Qualifying.
On Race 1, while trailing the leaders in 4th after a spectacular duel with Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Liuzzi was slowed down by a differential failure. Due to an extremely twisty car, making impossible for him to keep an ideal line, he lost one spot, and was then hit, not too much later, by team-mate Al Maktoum, puncturing his front right tire. After a quick pit-stop, Vitantonio tried to make up ground, but eventually ended up in 12th.
Liuzzi went on a total attack on Race 2, recovering until 6th place in just 5 laps and clocking the fastest lap of the race. Unfortunately, the weekend ended like it started shortly after, when he was hit by the spinning car of Zoechling and forced to retire.
"I'm really disappointed for how this weekend ended up. I left Qatar two weeks ago with a lot of confidence, and with the hope to have good chances for the title fight. Unfortunately, everything went on wrong here at Dubai. The car suffered from an uninterrupted sequence of technical problems starting from practice. After suffering from throttle, brake, differential issues, I was even hit by other cars. Let's forget this race and focus on the next one..."
