Andy Lally Joins Ford Racing Mustang Challenge at Homestead Miami Speedway
Homestead, FL-- (14 March 2009) Two-time Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Andy Lally will add another item on his already impressive racing resume on Sunday as Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series officials announced that Lally will race in round two of the 2009 Mustang Challenge championship at Homestead Miami Speedway.
After SPEEDTV.com writer James Hunt showed his mettle with a run from 13th at the start to take 9th at the finish and earn the BFGoodrich "Take Control" award, Lally will have his work cut out for him to match that benchmark as he takes over the driving duties behind the wheel of the Capaldi Racing-prepared No. 00 "Media Car" on Sunday.
It will be a busy day for the Dacula, Georgia resident, as the Mustang Challenge outing will be in concert with his competition outing in the KONI Sports Car Challenge GS event Sunday afternoon.
It comes as no surprise that Lally has an extensive range of experience at Homestead Miami Speedway, from running the full oval in NASCAR Camping World Truck competition to racing prototypes on the same road course layout that the Mustang Challenge is utilizing this weekend. He also already knows how to find Gatorade Victory Lane, having scored a Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class victory at the South Florida facility in 2005.
While the affable American racer has been successful with nearly every brand on the market, his ties to the Blue Oval go all the way back to his days racing in Formula Ford.
"I'm really excited to get this opportunity with the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge," said Lally, who took his first top-ten in NASCAR competition behind the wheel of a Ford Fusion in 2007. "It's a really cool series, and it looks like a lot of fun. I have friends racing in the Mustang Challenge, and I know these guys are really experienced with this car. It's a really competitive field so I know it's a big challenge, but I'm I look forward to hopping into the Mustang and seeing what I can do tomorrow!"
Round 2 is slated for a 12:15 PM start time on Sunday.
