Buffomante Leads Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Practice at HARRAH's Autobahn Grand Prix presented by Mazda
JOLIET, IL--24 July 09--After a successful promoter test day on Thursday, the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge opened the HARRAH's Autobahn Grand Prix presented by Mazda with two official practice sessions on Friday, with Mosport round race winner Tony Buffomante setting the fastest time of the day with his quick time of 2:40.373-seconds on the 3.56-mile Autobahn circuit.
The HARRAH's Autobahn Grand Prix presented by Mazda marks the series' first visit to the track, which is situated outside of Chicago in Joliet. Drivers and spectators alike have positively received the new venue, and with seven different series staging races during the weekend, the event should provide plenty of action for the fans.
"This has been a great experience for our first time here at the Autobahn circuit," said Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series Director Lynda Randall. "Normally when you come to a venue that is hosting its first event, you expect some bumps along the way, but this event has gone off as smooth as can be. It's also great racing with the six other support series, and everyone is showing a wonderful sense of camaraderie. Now, we're looking forward to rewarding the Autobahn Circuit promoters and fans with a thrilling Mustang Challenge qualifying and race."
In a second practice session on Friday afternoon, Buffomonte's time stood up as championship combatant Ted Anthony Jr. set the quickest time of the session with a 2:41.239-seconds in his TC Motorsports Mustang as he looks to gain ground in the championship battle with just two rounds of racing remaining.
"We're on the right track with the car set-up so I feel pretty good coming into qualifying tomorrow," said Ted Anthony. "We ran old tires for the second practice session today and still managed to come out on top. Tomorrow, on new tires, I think you'll see a good showdown for pole. We're ready for it. I really enjoy this track and all of the Alan Wilson-designed tracks like Miller Motorsports Park and Barber Motorsports Park. They have a great rhythm and flow to them, which suits my style well."
"We went better today than yesterday when we had a broken front sway bar," said Andrew Caddell, who is looking to clinch the championship crown this weekend. "Today, the car came alive like it did at Mid-Ohio, even though we only ran old tires today, so I know we can race fast. Qualifying, however will be questionable for the pole. It's going to be a tight battle with (Ted) Anthony and (Tony) Buffomante who is running really well here. "
The pole battle is slated for a 4:05 PM local start time, with story, photos, and video content to be posted at: www.MustangChallenge.com
