Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Kicks Off Austin Hatcher Foundation Support At Barber Motorsports Park
Tooele, UT-- (8 April 2009)--No matter who wins at the races, the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge event at Barber Motorsports Park on April 17-19 will be one that will be cherished for years to come thanks to the efforts of the Austin Hatcher Foundation, the Official Charity of the Mustang Challenge.
The double header race weekend, staged as part of the huge 45th Anniversary celebrations of the Ford Mustang weekend, will kick off the series' relationship with the Austin Hatcher Foundation with a variety of activities designed to raise funds and awareness as well as creating an unforgettable and truly special experience for young fighters and their families.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation's mission is to support research towards the diagnoses, treatment and development of a cure for pediatric cancer and to provide support and hope to children and families undergoing treatment as well as to those who have lost children due to cancer. The Austin Hatcher Foundation also champions bold research, new treatments, and the vision for a cure.
VIP families from Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Atlanta area children's hospitals will be on hand for the Mustang event. Every invited guest is a family member of someone coping with the wide-ranging effects that pediatric cancer can have on children and their families. The race weekend, which will play host to rounds three and four of the 2009 championship, will see Mustang Challenge drivers taking an active role in the weekend, starting with a visit to Children's Hospital in Birmingham on Thursday.
The guests will have the opportunity to see the Mustang Challenge from behind the scenes, from drivers meetings to the moment the paddock explodes with sound as the field of FR500S machines roar to life to head out to race on Barber's immaculate natural terrain road course. In addition to the immersive experience for the guests, there will be a variety of activities including a silent auction of a BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tire to raise funds during the weekend.
"Creating this kind of experience for these kids and their families goes a long way towards restoring the hope, happiness, and health to the family unit," said Austin Hatcher Foundation Founder Jim Osborne. "We are really excited to be kicking off our relationship with Mustang Challenge and are very grateful that we can be part of this big event. I want to thank the series, the drivers, the track, and BFGoodrich Tires for all of their efforts in making this happen."
The opportunity to be involved with the race weekend is a form of diversionary therapy for the guests, which provides the young children and their families alike the opportunity to focus on something completely different from what they experience as they take on the battle of pediatric cancer.
"This is such a good thing not only for the kids, but also for the parents," said Lynda Randall. "For them to have a day of fun, away from any hospitals, is really a special opportunity and we are very happy to be able to be a part of this. Since we first announced that the Austin Hatcher Foundation was the Official Charity of the series, our drivers have been very enthusiastic supporters and I want to thank them for the time and support that they have offered. We hope we can create a very special experience for our guests, and we also want to get the word out and raise as much money as we can for this tremendous cause."
