The Stock Car Championship Series gets ready to start its 2003 season with the "Stock Cars at the Park "this weekend at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL.

"We are excited to be part of the "At the Park" weekend and know that the spectators will enjoy the thrill of watching our high-powered cars on this new road course," stated Dan Fite, VP operations for SCCS. We will be at the Barber Motorsports Park two times this year and our drivers are looking forward to tackling this new course. During our first visit our SCCS stock cars will join the sports cars of Grand American Road Racing Association to provide a weekend full of exciting road racing."

Chris Mitchum, the 2002 SCCS Series Champion stated that the Mitchum Motorsports team is "expecting a very exciting season. We are ready to start the 2003 season with the support of Koons Automotive Group, BG Products, and Late Model Racer magazine. I expect that the increased size and talent of the series this year will make repeating as champions twice as hard, and we expect to be up to the challenge. Running the opening race at a new facility [Barber] will make for a very tight field as it takes away any home track advantage. Each of the teams will have to get their cars set up early so that drivers can concentrate on learning the track."

The Stock Car Championship Series cars will take to the track for practice on Friday May 16 with qualifying and race on Saturday May 17.
