The DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America is proud to announce the 27th season of the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS). The MARRS Championship is often described as the best road racing on the Atlantic Coast and the 2002 season is expected to be no exception. A typical MARRS event attracts over 250 cars, placing each MARRS event in the top-25 club racing events of each year.
The season kicks off on April 27-28 with the Spring Fling at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV. Over Mother^Òs Day weekend, the series visits scenic Virginia International Raceway in Danville for the third annual MARRS/SARRC Mother^Òs Day Double and what is one of the largest regional race held by the SCCA.
On Father^Òs Day, MARRS returns to Summit Point for the 2nd Annual Racing for Reading Regional to benefit the South Jefferson Public Library. Last year^Òs event raised over $5,000 for the library and the Region has set its sites on beating this mark.
July will be a busy month for MARRS competitors as the championship will again be at Summit Point Raceway July 5-6 before making the annual trek to the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Once again, MARRS championship points will be awarded at the traditional Watkins Glen Summer Sprints. MARRS will return to Summit Point for the middle of the humidity season on August 10-11.
The Olympic Auto Parts 600, a Labor Day classic and possibly the second largest regional event on the Atlantic Coast, will be held over the Labor Day Weekend at Summit Point. This event is a long-time crowd favorite and should not be missed.
Fall racing returns to the championship in 2002. The final event of the 2002 MARRS championship will be held amid the beautiful Summit Point Fall foliage on October 12-13.
