Larry H. Miller Receives Lee Iacocca Award
TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (September 1, 2008) -- Larry H. Miller, the owner of Miller Motorsports Park, was named the recipient of the Lee Iacocca Award at the 2008 Mustang Club of America Grand National meet in Park City, Utah, on Sunday, August 31.
The Lee Iacocca Award is given for Dedication to Excellence In Perpetuating An American Automotive Tradition, and directly benefits The Iacocca Foundation to help find a cure for diabetes. Mr. Iacocca, a longtime automotive executive with Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation, is credited with the creation of the iconic Ford Mustang. He formed the foundation 24 years ago in the memory of his wife, Mary K. Iacocca, who died from complications related to diabetes. Since 1984, the Iacocca Foundation has raised more than $23 million to fund promising diabetes research.
Larry H. Miller, a diabetic himself, was chosen as the recipient by the Mustang Club of America based on his devotion to motorsports and the creation of Miller Motorsports Park, the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup, as well as his longtime enthusiasm for Ford Mustangs and other Ford vehicles.
Bryan Miller, Larry H. Miller's son and Corporate Events Sales Manager at Miller Motorsports Park, accepted the award on his father's behalf.
"It is my distinct honor to receive the Lee Iacocca Award," said Larry H. Miller in a prepared statement. "Mr. Iacocca is an outstanding American, and his dedication to funding diabetes research is indicative of his character and generosity. I think I speak for all Mustang enthusiasts in expressing my appreciation for his contributions in creating one of the greatest vehicles in automotive history. The Ford Mustang has provided countless drivers, including myself, with millions of miles of driving enjoyment and racing excitement over the past 45 years, a trend that shows no sign of diminishing in the years to come."
