This Week in Ford Racing
Mike McGovern, driver of the No. 55 Hyper Sport Ford Mustang FR500S, returns to action in this weekend's Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. McGovern, who is the Chief Driving Instructor at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, enters the race fourth in the standings at the halfway point of the season.
MIKE McGOVERN - No. 55 Hyper Sport Ford Mustang FR500S
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SEASON FOR YOU UP TO THIS POINT? "I guess it would be the last race when I started 12th and I ended up finishing fifth. That was probably the highlight for me. It's been a little bit of a struggle for me though. I anticipated doing better than I have. We're working on that. I hope we continue to improve. We've made changes - we're now working with Hyper Sport instead of Rehagen. I'm real excited about that. This will be the first weekend and hopefully it will be a relationship that will continue to grow."
THROUGH THE FIRST FOUR RACES, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL RACE IN THIS CAR? "I think the critical part is the definitely the car's setup and finding a good balance there and understanding how the shocks work. The other part is driving the track right. It's important that you get the car pointed and head down the straightaway as soon as you can and as fast as you can. Positioning yourself well is the key. It's all about momentum."
A LOT OF DRIVERS ARE TALKING ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO SAVE THE TIRES BUT NOT GET TOO FAR BEHIND IN DOING SO. HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO FIND THAT BALANCE? "I think I'm still looking for a balance in the vehicle. As far as these guys in this series, there are a lot of good drivers. You can't wait; you have to go and you have to drive that car as hard as you can for 45 minutes. So finding that balance is critical."
ANDREW CADDELL IS FIRST IN THE STANDINGS AND HE HAS BUILT A VERY COMFORTABLE LEAD. IT'S ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON, BUT CAN HE BE CAUGHT? "He's going to have to make several big mistakes. He's going to have to make a couple of big mistakes where he's not finishing or at least finishing well to take him out of that position."
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON? "I think the part that I am looking forward to is the relationship that we have with Hyper Sport. I'm hoping that that relationship works out well and that we will we have better results at the end of the weekend. I have a good feeling about that."
