Night falls on Sepang at the Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race, and G1-Meritus takes the lead - 8.10pm
The Porsche 911 GT3s continue to dominate the 12 hour Merdeka Millenniums Endurance Race (MME), as the consistent G1-Meritus Racing car number 17 has moved into the lead after a flawless race... so far. The Naza Racing Porsche has taken second place from the Jaseri Porsche, despite some lightning quick laps by ex-F1 driver Alex Yoong. Only 2 laps separate these top 3 cars.
The super quick Radical of BSA Racing hit some mechanical problems, forcing a long pitstop. The Radical was last seen smoking along in 10th place. The monstrous BMW M3 GT of Amprex Motorsports, easily the loudest car out there, lost its other title as the fastest, when it too ran into mechanical problems. It is now down in 7th place, 10 laps behind the leaders.
"We've got a really full tank, so we don't need to make too many stops before the end, which should help our cause. I just hope our tyres can take the long stints," said Firhat Mokhzani of Team G1-Meritus Racing.
"The car still feels strong. We'll just have to see how we do in the dark. It's totally different to driving in the day," said young TJ Chin also of G1-Meritus, who at 19 may become the youngest ever winner of the MME.
G1-Meritus Racing's other GT3 (car 18) is gradually pulling itself back up the order, after losing 50 places due to a fuel shortage. They are currently in 26th.
