Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race update - half distance, and they begin to drop

Half-way through the 12 hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MME), and the dramas are in full swing. The ominous clouds came and went without unleashing their load, so the track temperature continued to rise through the noon day sun. As a result the cars came under immense strain, with numerous brake failures causing some lengthy pit stops.

The Porsche 911 GT3 once again proved its worth in endurance racing, occupying 4 of the top 5 spots, with the lead cars the only ones which have not had any major problems. In first is the number 10 car of Jaseri Racing (driven by Alex Yoong), followed by number 7 of BSA and number 17 of G1-Meritus Racing. The number 11 BMW M3 GT of Amprex Motorsports spoils the Porsche-fest, having dropped from first to fourth with brake problems.

The only Porsche not in the top 5 has dropped to the 30s, not with a mechanical failure but an unfortunate empty fuel tank. The time it took for JP Chin to make it all the way back to his pits on foot to pick up a fuel can and return to his car dropped the number 18 into the middle of the lower group cars, where his team mate Azman is currently moving up the order.

"The track is getting really grippy, but at the same time our tyres are going off because it's our second stint on them. My cooling suit also started pumping hot instead of cold water, which was kind of ironic," said Firhat Mokhzani of Team G1-Meritus Racing.

"I was so focussed on catching up with the next car that I didn't notice the fuel light come on. Next thing I knew I rolled to a stop and had to go for a jog for fuel," said JP Chin of his ordeal.

Breaking News - race leader Jaseri Racing (Porsche GT3) dropped to 4th after a mysterious pitstop.
